Like a phoenix, Comex?s userland JailbreakMe exploit is about to be reborn. But it doesn?t seem like it will work on your iPad 2.
A Cult of Mac tipster sent us this screenshot that he captured when trying to reach JailbreakMe.com on his iPad 2 running iOS 4.3.3.
Although we are not able to reproduce the above shot, we have every reason to believe this is legit: Comex has been hinting at something coming on Jailbreakme.com for a while now. Additionally, we have been hearing rumors about a secret project called ?Elevator? for a while now. We believe that the new JailbreakMe.com is the same as Elevator, and that our tipster happened to hit the page on his iPad 2 while Comex was doing some testing.
If this shot is what it appears to be, it looks like another exploit in iOS 4.0 has been found that allows any device running an iOS version between 3.2.1 and 4.0 to jailbreak using Mobile Safari.
Contrary to rumors, the new JailbreakMe would seemingly leave the iPad 2 out of the jailbreaking fun: the iPad 2 shipped with iOS 4.3. Since the only way to downgrade to a previous version of iOS than the one you are using is to have extract its SHSH blobs, the iPad 2 can not be downgraded to a jailbreakable state. The wait for an iPad 2 jailbreak continues.
