EUGENE -- Four players scored in double figures and senior guard Jazmine Perkins notched her second straight double-double as Washington State posted a dominating 75-47 victory over Oregon on Thursday evening.
The Cougars (7-6, 1-0) connected on a season-high 10 three-pointers and notch its first conference-opening victory since beating Oregon State University 58-41 Dec. 21, 2006 in Corvallis. The 28-point victory is the largest conference victory since beating the Ducks 102-69 in Eugene Jan. 20, 1991.
WSU held Oregon (8-5, 0-1 Pac-12) to 25.8 percent shooting and forced the Ducks into 24 turnovers. Perkins notched her fifth career double-double with 15 points and 12 rebounds while senior guard Rosetta Adzasu scored a season-high 15 points with junior forward Carly Noyes and sophomore guard Sage Romberg each adding 10 points.
The Cougars were off and running early as Romberg got things started with a long three from the left wing and Perkins followed with driving lefthanded layup that went high off the glass. Minutes later, WSU used an 11-0 run to open up a 16-4 lead just under five minutes in. Amojo followed a pair of Perkins free throws with a three and Perkins and Adzasu each knocked down three?s on the next two trips down the floor.
Oregon would pull within eight before Romberg and senior April Cook connected from behind the arc and Perkins capped an 8-0 run with a reverse layup just before the shot clock expired to give WSU a 25-9 lead with 9:03 remaining.
The Cougars stayed hot and closed the half with a 9-3 spurt as Adzasu hit two three?s, Noyes added a wide-open layup and Perkins hit a free throw to send the Cougs into the half up 38-21.
WSU held Oregon to 25.0 percent shooting forced the Ducks into 15 turnovers in the first 20 minutes. Perkins led all scorers with 10 points and Adzasu hit three from behind the arc as the Cougs knocked down eight three?s in the half.
It was more the same for the Cougs in the second half as Perkins opened with a three to give WSU a 41-21 advantage. Washington State went on to build its lead to 23 but the Ducks caught fire, posting an 11-0 run that grew to 14-2 and cut the Cougars lead to 11, 51-40 with 11:17 remaining.
WSU stopped the Oregon comeback attempt, using 14-3 run of its own on a pair of sophomore forward Hana Potter layups and a couple steals and fastbreak layups by freshman Tia Presley and Noyes to build a 65-43 lead with 5:51 remaining and never look back.
The Cougars finished with the game 42.3 percent including a season-high 10 three-pointers. The Ducks, who came into the game averaging over 80 ppg, were led by Jasmin Holliday with 12 points.
