An accountant and CEO of Skytrend Consulting, Femi Adeoya, has called on all levels of? government in Nigeria and private school owners to make accounting a general course at tertiary institutions.
He said that accountants as permanent crew members in all serious business organisations are therefore indispensable, but not always affordable, in the planning and day to day running of organisations.
?There is a lacuna in the most sensitive area of running a business ? the management of funds for profitability and this should not be left in the hands of employees alone. The business of financial health of organisations must be regularly monitored by CEOs and other managers already trained as accountants.
Femi Adeoya said he began to organise weekend training for accountants, business owners and managers, at his Lagos office, because as an accountant, ?I feel bad when many companies get stunted due to lack of financial foresight or grounded due to corrupt financial activities of employees, which are not observed by the top managers because of ignorance.
?Many organisations lose millions of naira to illegal bank charges in the presence of companies? accountants. It is now mandatory that the CEOs must be able to analyse bank statements and possibly discover illegal bank charges themselves.
?It is also necessary that these business managers should be able to set up customers/ ?suppliers? inventories, manage cash-flows, understand bank balances with focus on eliminating illegal bank charges, and reduce errors and fraud.
