Windows Phone exec exits five months after being poached from Samsung

Image

Microsoft's Gavin Kim was a high-profile capture for Redmond, as it poached the former Samsung and Motorola exec to bolster its Windows Phone marketing team. Now, just five months into the job, he's departing after marshaling the "Smoked by Windows Phone" campaign into the world. The company wouldn't go into specifics beyond saying that it was a personal decision to leave and Microsoft bears him no ill will -- but then that's what they always say. He'll be replaced by Eugene Ho, who now has the job of continuing the burgeoning platform's upward trajectory and winning around those European carriers who've greeted it with little more than apathy.

Seeking Credit Counseling Services for Debt

couples credit counseling session

Getting out of debt is hard. For many, turning to professional help offers the needed support to get them on the road to success. When considering this route, remember that the earlier the better. Reaching out for help before it is too late will help those involved help you in the best manner.

There are all sorts of debt management help out there today, and navigating it can be difficult. Below are some options and things to watch for when thinking of turning to a pro.

Signs you should consider professional help:

  1. Credit Card payments are rising while income is steady or decreasing.
  2. Unable to even meet minimum payment.
  3. Using one credit card to make payments on another.
  4. You are at or very close to the limit on all your credit cards.
  5. You add more debt than you pay off each month.
  6. You are unsure how much you owe, and afraid to find out.
  7. You have received phone calls or letters about delinquent bill payments.
  8. You are buying everyday things such as groceries with credit cards.
  9. You are dipping into savings or your IRA to pay your monthly bills.
  10. You use your credit card not as convenience but by necessity.

Credit Counseling

Most of the services offered fall under the umbrella of ?credit counseling?. Credit counseling is a custom tailored plan to provide guidance and support for people who need help getting out of debt. The goal most times is to avoid bankruptcy, and provide education on financial management to help avoid the same problem again. Many of these services also negotiate with a person?s creditors on their behalf to reduce interest or rearrange repayment structures.

Debt Management Program

?Debt Management Program (or Plan)? is another phrase often mentioned when discussing professional debt management. This is not separate from credit counseling, but a tool used under the same umbrella. A DMP is a workout proposal usually made by your credit counselor agreed to by the creditors. The DMP is the money left over after developing an accurate budget with your counselor. The disposable income is directed towards the credit counselor, who in turn allocates it to the various creditors. The credit counselor acts as the intermediary, to help communications from both ends.

Debt Settlement

?Debt Settlement? is the final term often discussed within this discussion. This is a process by which a large, one-time payment is made for forgiveness of remaining debt. Although the thought of paying back less than is owed is tempting, there are no free lunches. Any amount forgiven is viewed as taxable income by the IRS, which can come back to haunt you, unless you file for bankruptcy. In addition, it will show up on your credit report for some years, and make it very unlikely a lender will approve you for an affordable loan.

Shopping Around

As with anything else, it pays to comparison shop. There are many companies offering credit counseling, and finding the best deal can take a little research. But don?t be fooled if the company claims to be ?nonprofit?. This often can be misleading, as they will oftentimes actually charge higher fees than other ?for profit? businesses.

According to the Federal Trade Commission, the following questions should be asked to any prospective credit counselor:

  • What services do you offer?
  • Will you help me develop a plan for avoiding problems in the future?
  • What are your fees?
  • What if I can?t afford to pay your fees?
  • What qualifications do your counselors have? Are they accredited or certified by an outside organization? What training do they receive?
  • What do you do to keep information about me (including my address, phone number, and financial information) confidential and secure?
  • How are your employees paid? Are they paid more if I sign up for certain services, if I pay a fee, or if I make a contribution to your organization?

Click here for a list of approved credit counseling by state.

Have you used any debt management or credit counseling services in recent years? If so, did it help? We?d love it if you?d briefly share your experience with us and others seeking professional help, in the comments below.

Thanks!

Next we?ll cover the ins and outs of bankruptcy?

Thanks for Sharing!

Report: HP's South Korean offices raided over alleged price fixing

Image

Korea Times is a publication that isn't shy of the odd bold statement and today it's claiming that HP's South Korean offices were raided on suspicion of price-fixing deals made with IBM and Oracle. The country's Fair Trade Commission seized documents, computer records and questioned employees over alleged price-rigging on public-sector contracts. A company spokesperson said that the visit was routine, while FTC officers refused to comment about ongoing matters, but what is clear is that if any wrong-doing is found, the case will be turned over to prosecutors with the aim of commencing criminal proceedings for those responsible.

Future, DJ Khaled And Juvenile To Join 'RapFix Live' Party

"RapFix Live" is ready to turn up. Last week, Sway welcomed Ace Hood and TDE's Schoolboy Q on the red couch, but this week, he'll have to make even more room because Future, DJ Khaled and Juvenile will all be stopping by to kick it Wednesday at 4 p.m. ET on MTV.com.

On Tuesday, Future is dropping his debut album, Pluto. To celebrate, he will swing through the "RapFix" set and make an appearance on MTV's new weekly talk show "Hip Hop POV" on Wednesday. The "Tony Montana" rapper's first shot features R. Kelly, T.I., Juicy J, Snoop Dogg and Trae Tha Truth. His single "Magic" peaked at #10 on the Billboard Hip-Hop/R&B charts, and his next record, "Same Damn Time," is starting to bubble as well.

It'll be quite the moment if the rap newcomer crosses paths with veteran MC Juvenile, who will also be in the studio. Juvie began his career as the shining star on Birdman's Cash Money Records. His 1998 LP, 400 Degreez, was a pivotal hip-hop album and ultimately established Cash Money as a musical force to be reckoned with. It spawned singles like "Ha" and the rump-shaking "Back That Azz Up." Juvie left CMR in 2002 and has largely carried on by himself. He dropped his last solo album, Beast Mode, in 2010 and earlier this year released his Mardi Gras mixtape with DJ Smallz.

Now you can't have a party without DJ Khaled. Since 2006, the Miami representative has been carving his lane as a hitmaker. On his debut LP, Listennn... the Album, Khaled paired artists like Lil Wayne, Rick Ross, Jadakiss and Beanie Sigel on high-powered collaborative cuts. He successfully improved on the formula through the years and has delivered with hit records like "I'm So Hood" featuring T-Pain, Rick Ross, Trick Daddy and Plies, as well as last year's inescapable single "I'm On One" with Drake, Ross and Lil Wayne. Khaled's latest track, "Take It to the Head," partners Chris Brown, Rick Ross, Lil Wayne and Nicki Minaj on a single track. His sixth studio album, Kiss the Ring, is due later this year.

Catch Future, DJ Khaled and Juvenile on "RapFix Live" Wednesday at 4 p.m. ET on MTV.com, and be sure to join the Twitter conversation using the hashtag #RapFixLive. Send your questions for the artists to @MTVRapFix!
